Our school-wide English language arts (ELA) program is called Wonders by McGraw/Hill. Our school-wide math program is called Stepping Stones by Origo. This year marks our second year of implementation. Both these programs have been chosen by the state as being among the most comprehensive in reaching the common core state standards in reading and math. Please be patient as we get trained and transition to the new curriculum materials.
LANGUAGE ARTSThe Wonders program is designed with 6 thematic units with 5 readings (fiction/nonfiction) for a total of 30 passages of various genres. In addition, each unit has a reader's theater selection that students will participate in. Other essential components include writing, & grammar.

HOW YOU CAN HELPRead together regularly. Have your child read to you, you read to your child, or simply have a dedicated reading time when the TV and computer is off and everyone is enjoying their own book. Visit the library. When a story test is coming up (as indicated in their planner) review with your child.

MATHEMATICSThe Stepping Stones Math program is designed with 12 modules (or units) with 12 lessons each for a total of 144 lessons. Expect your child to complete a lesson a day with a review homework sheet from their student journal daily. In addition, supplementary lessons and review sheets will be provided as needed.

Grade 3: Multiply and divide within 100 Add and subtract within 1000 Grade 4: Add and subtract within 1,000,000 Grade 5: Multi-digit multiplication Children earn a math medal upon reaching their math fluency goal of completing a 100 item multiplication test in under 3 minutes. |
